  • A Colorado mom fatally shot her toddler son, then turned the gun on herself last week at Rocky Mountain National Park, authorities revealed Monday. According to the Coloradoan, Tristen Watson, 24, and her 17-month-old son, Christopher, both of Colorado Springs, were found dead at the park Friday, rangers said. Officials discovered the bodies after receiving a report of a suicidal person on the premises, the newspaper reported. KRDO reported that Watson had announced she was pregnant in a recent Facebook post. Authorities have not confirmed that she had been expecting another child, but a third victim, Aspen Ann Watson, is named in Watson’s obituary. Read more here or here.
  • Authorities in Florida have issued an Amber Alert for a newborn baby after police discovered three dead women in a Miami home Tuesday. According to WPTV, 1-week-old Andrew Caballeiro has been missing since Tuesday, the same day that authorities found the women’s bodies at a home on Southwest 187th Avenue. In a Wednesday morning tweet, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement said the child may be with Ernesto Caballeiro, 49. Miami-Dade police said the man is the boy’s father. Officials said Andrew, who is Hispanic with a bald head and black eyes, is 20 inches long and weighs 7 pounds, according to the alert. Ernesto Caballeiro, who is also Hispanic, has brown eyes and black hair, the alert said. He stands 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighs 240 pounds, authorities said. Investigators believe he is driving a white 2001 Chevy Express with Florida tag HETY13 and decals that read “Nesty School Services” and “Caution: Transporting Children.' ”If located, DO NOT APPROACH,' the alert said. “Contact law enforcement immediately.” If you have any information about the pair’s whereabouts, call 911 or call Miami-Dade police at 305-471-2400.   • An AMBER Alert is out for a Miami-Dade County baby. The alert was issued this morning for one-week-old Andrew Caballeiro. The FDLE believes Ernesto Caballeiro kidnapped the child yesterday from a home on Southwest 187th Ave in Miami. Police say the two live in a home where three women were found shot to death yesterday. Caballeiro has not been named as a suspect. The 49-year-old may be traveling with the child in a white 2001 Chevy Express van with a Florida tag. The elder Caballeiro is described as white-Hispanic, 5-foot-7, 240 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
  • It’s the coldest morning of the week with temperatures in the 30’s for most neighborhoods, 40’s closer to the Atlantic, Intracoastal and St. Johns River.  Expect another round of afternoon and evening showers to move in as a disturbance crosses our area from the Gulf of Mexico.  Moisture will stream into the area and bring showers throughout the area through early Thursday. More showers will arrive by Friday and early Saturday.  The end of the weekend will be dry with highs in the 60’s.  The 70’s return for the start of next week. 
  • A Chicago toddler was shot Monday during a gun struggle between his parents, authorities said. According to The Associated Press, police said the incident occurred Monday night in the family’s home. The victim, a 1-year-old boy, was struck in the head and taken to a nearby hospital, officials said. Although the child’s father initially told investigators that a gunman had shot the boy from the street, detectives learned that the child was hit as the parents fought over a gun, which went off during the dispute, the AP reported. The boy remains in stable condition, authorities said. His parents have been detained but not yet charged, the AP reported. Read more here.
